I appreciate the stand our governor is taking in calling a Prayer Rally. I have long said that our nation is under judgment, and the current and recent national disasters are proof that God is not happy with us as a nation. Historically, anytime a famine was in the land, the people recognized the judgment of God. Technically, America is not experiencing a famine, but that is only a technicality. If we were dependent upon our land for our food, the drought across the southwest United States would indeed affect our food supply. The flooding of America’s plains would also have the same affect.
It in not popular in America for our leaders to come together for a day of prayer. In fact, our President is loath to recognize the National Day of Prayer. A quick look at the national headlines lets us know that we are being governed in some part by leaders (and I use that term loosely) who use their political offices and perks for personal advancement. The advancement is not in all cases positive, witness Watergate, Monica-gate, Nanny-gate, and now Weiner-gate. In the last few years we have had our politicians coming out of the closet and revealing extramarital affairs, homosexual affairs, bastard children, and fraudulent use of taxpayer dollars. These actions are the antithesis of respectful governance.
Make no mistake, the Bible is very clear. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14 Governor Perry says: “I believe it is time to convene the leaders from each of our United States in a day of prayer and fasting, like that described in the book of Joel. I urge all Americans of faith to pray on that day for the healing of our country, the rebuilding of our communities and the restoration of enduring values as our guiding force.” Amen! Thank you, Governor Perry for being a leader that we can look up to. I urge the other governors of these great Unites States to amend their calendars, and come to Houston to seek the face of God.

Thank you for posting on this subject. I, for one, count it a privilege that we still have the freedom of religion in America. It is, for now, one of the privileges that has not been taken away. I applaud Governor Perry for stepping up to the plate and pray that others in governmental leadership positions will accept the challenge you have set before them.
