News flash:    Amputating arm cures Tennis Elbow and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Yes, it is true!   Absurd proactive treatment, but the result is the same.

Imagine my horror this weekend as my husband was reading a news flash that stated that having gastric bypass surgery cured diabetes.  Well, it may do that (I did not see the references on that story) but at what price?  It wrecks the individual’s digestive processes.

The body is designed to have a stomach.  The stomach has special acids in it to break down the food before it can be assimilated into the body in the small intestine.  When someone has gastric bypass surgery, the surgeon removes most of the stomach, and the patient is left with a very small pouch.  The size of the pouch is too small for enough digestive juices to have any impact, so the food passes into the small intestine in a form too large to be assimilated into the body.  This means that those who have had gastric bypass surgery are largely unable to get any nutrition from the minute amount of food that they are able to consume.

True, diabetes is often the result of consuming too many fast foods; too many processed foods, and too many sweet foods.  The addition of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS)  into many of these foods, causes them to be addictive, without much nutritional benefit.  Because the body does not recognize HFCS as a nutrient, the body continues to be hungry, fueling the obesity epidemic we see here in the US.

A much better solution for those suffering with diabetes is to make lifestyle changes: swear off the offending foods, and put into the body food that is nourishing.  We do this in my Weight Loss Clinic.  I am happy to say that every person who was diabetic, or pre-diabetic has had normal sugar numbers after participating in the nine week clinic.  They have been able to (with their doctor’s permission and approval) get off their diabetes Rx, and enjoy more energy and a greater sense of wellness.

Please, please consider the long-term (often unalterable) effects of gastric bypass surgery.  There are other saner solutions.

Until next time,

Polly
