Who will stand?

As a Christian, I have heard many of those in my circle complain about the way the country is going.  They complain at the liberal media, they complain at the loss of morals, they complain that the church has no power, they complain about the economy, they complain about our President.

Our Governor calls for a day of fasting and prayer, and these same people are too busy, do not want to be inconvenienced, and are apathetic about the opportunity to make a stand and show the nation that Christians are concerned.

In  fairness to the Christian community at large, I have not talked to many people about the day of prayer and fasting.  Our Pastor is out-of-town this week, but he is flying in tomorrow and has encouraged us to attend this meeting with him.  He has encouraged us to show up and be counted.   I have read the newspaper, and there are only eight thousand people who have registered to attend this event.  The venue holds about seventy-one thousand.  There will be quite a few empty seats.

Quite honestly, I have not had a weekend off (work, travel, school) in very many weeks.  I do not want to spend tomorrow at Reliant Stadium.  Tomorrow is my birthday.  I have been invited to a baby shower, and my children are on their way to see me.   However, my nation, my family and friends deserve my being inconvenienced to join with our Governor and pray and seek God’s face as we fight and battle our way in this post-Christian era.

My Christian friends quote this scripture often when they talk to me about what they want God to do.  “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14

We have an opportunity to do this tomorrow.  No, this opportunity will not make my top ten list of things I want to do tomorrow.  However, it is the right thing to do.  When I think of how Jesus inconvenienced Himself for me by going to the Cross, attending the day of fasting and prayer tomorrow is the least I can do.   When I think of all the military men and women who have fought for the freedoms of our nations, it is the least I can do to take advantage of their sacrifice.

The protestors (ACLU, Freedom from Religion folks, pastors who do not agree with Governor Perry) are taking advantage of the same sacrifice to be inconvenienced  on a Saturday to stand up and be counted as opposing our Governor.

Being there in person to be counted among the eight thousand is the least I can do.

Until next time,

Polly

I wholeheartedly agree with you! I will be there. I believe some have been duped into believing it is a political ploy and others do not want to give up their food and water fast from at least 10-5pm. Have been preparing myself spiritually for this day since July 31st, and because of willingness and obedience, I have been lifted, re-fired and gotten back in the game. The enmey has side lined a lot of the body of Christ, and I was one of them. No more! We stand or we fall! These are perilous times and God has all the answers, but we must seek His face, recieve His grace and run our race!
