Why do I need to engage the help of a Professional Naturopath?

I belong to many Facebook forums and LinkedIn groups. I follow different groups related to integrative health care and alternative health care. One question or comment seems to be trending at the moment: Do I need a professional Naturopath? Alternatively, to put it a different way: I don’t need a professional, I can Google what I need.
As a professional, I have the experience to answer both versions. Yes, you need a professional to help you with your health journey. A professional will be able to look at the cause of your symptom. He will help the body where it is deficient, and then the symptom will disappear. When you go into a health food store, or you buy products off the internet, more than likely you are addressing a symptom, which is hindering your quality of life.

EVERY symptom is a healing strategy of the body. The body is saying: Hey, look at me, I need help! When you suppress a symptom, then the body has to find another, usually worse symptom, in hopes that you will pay attention. If you follow the western model of medicine, and continue to suppress symptoms, then the body has no choice but to show the symptoms which the medical profession will label as Cancer (for which there is usually no cure) in order for you to really pay attention.

If you are one of those who Dr. Googles everything, then you most likely have a cabinet full of herbs and supplements which are not doing anything for you. I had a client yesterday who came in and said that he was just dragging. He is very cognizant of his health needs, and has been self-supplementing with a very good MLM line of products. However, these products were not meeting his needs. I switched the brand (which also switched the therapeutic dose) of vitamins, and within eighteen hours, he called to say that he was amazed at the difference the different brand made in his energy level. In fact, this is his quote: “Feeling much better and stronger this morning! Took two as soon as I got home and two at bedtime and a couple more this morning! Feeling Good! Thanks!”

Does that mean that you cannot self-diagnose and self treat? No, you certainly can. What that does mean is that if you engage the help and guidance of a professional, you will reach your health goals quicker, and in the long run, probably less expensively. You will not have dollars tied up in inventory in your kitchen cupboard that is of no use to you, and you will have the right products at a therapeutic dose. You will help your body recover the health and vitality that you are missing.

Until next time,

Dr. Polly
