A normal credit card weighs about 5g. That is not much in weight, but it can be huge when viewed through the cumulative lens of a year.
Where do we get these particles?
- Breakdown of plastic in our food containers;
- Plastic water bottles;
- The air we breathe;
- Water purification process;
- Tea bags;
- Even the wear and tear of tires on the road releases nano-particles of plastic that we inhale!
The thought of these small particles are bad enough, but they affect our bodies as increased risks of cancer:
- Leukemia;
- Lymphoma;
- Prostate;
- Colorectal;
What can we do to minimize our exposure?
- Choose glass containers for beverages;
- Use ceramic containers for hot food and drinks.
- Choose loose tea or unbleached tea bags;
- Incorporate reusable materials:
- Cloth shopping bags;
- Wooden, glass, bamboo utensils.
Until next time,
Dr. Polly
